    JOB DESCRIPTION
    Lead and manage the Business Unit to optimise mining and processing activities through conception and implementation of effective planning and resourcing strategies for existing and future requirements.
    Provide strategic direction and formulate policies for on-going exploration and resource development.
    Provides analysis and monitoring of operating plans and strategy to signal the need for corrective action to the executive management team.
    Provide leadership and team support, including performance management, for all employees.
    Add significant value to the technical services department such that they are providing up-to-dateinformation to assist with mine development & on-going production issues
    Manage drill and blast engineering; ore control; geotechnical engineering, surface hydrology, contracted services and project engineering as required;
    Develop and communicate the annual budget, mine plans and schedules, including reserve generation and mine development plans;
    Implement best-in-class mining engineering practices including training of personnel in the use and application of new and improved technologies, mining methods etc.
    Ensure that all Business Unit staff have a clear understanding of their individual responsibilities and enforce company policies and procedures by providing training, coaching or disciplinary action as required.
    Ensure contractor workforce is performing to the required mine and statutory standards.
    Ensures that mine plans are prepared in accordance with the mines safety philosophy and utilises the HSEC Management system and that it meets environmental requirements.
    Ensure operations meet their statutory and corporate HSEC obligations by and supporting the development of the KCM Safety, Health, Environment and Community Management System
    Monitor and review activities to minimize any negative impact on the environment and minimize the exposure of H&S related risks to employees
    Ensure sustainability of the operations for the long-term future.
    Project a positive image of the mine into the local community.
    Manage the Business Unit in a profitable and effective manner.
    Prepare the annual operating and capital budgets;
    Responsibility for reporting & cost control processes, ongoing quarterly forecasts and capital and operating cost schedules.
    Oversee full cost reporting for the operation to KCM senior management;
    Oversee the execution of the operating plan and report against budget.

    Experience10 years
    Education LevelPost Graduate
    QualificationsPost graduate qualification in Civil, Mining Engineering or Geology. Postgraduate qualifications in management or mineral economics would be highly regarded.

    Knowledge OfAll technical functions in particular mining,environmental management, mine design, mine equipment performance & ore body modelling; International (ISO) quality, safety and environmental management standards

    Ability ToManage large complex mining and processing operations within the base metals industry, ideally copper.
