  • Description

    Key Responsibilities:

    Negotiation and drafting of agreements including commercial contracts, membership agreements and policy wording. Proposals, and any other document of a legal / binding / potentially risk or cost intensive nature;
    Provision of advice including assistance in respect of compliance, corporate investigations, including drafting of communications, review of preliminary and findings;
    Provide advice on various statutes (in particular FAIS, Insurance laws, POPI).
    Provide advice on commercial matters.
    Representation of the entities at meetings with industry, regulatory and/or other bodies and management of any disputes receive from the various bodies;
    Conducting and advising on general negotiations;
    Review and final sign off on legal matters including commercial agreements, all new product development and legal related matters;
    Review and legal sign off on external communications - various marketing and advertising materials.
    Relationship management, training and reporting.

    LLB degree preference is given to individuals with excellent academic results
    Experience & Skills:

    Min 6-7 years post-qualification experience - in a law firm (post articles), alternatively in a commercial or financial services environment, within a highly regulated industry
    Previous experience of and / or the law relating to Group Risk / Compliance
    Experience in the following areas of law is necessary: Consumer Protection, POPI, FAIS, Insurance law, NCA.
    Technical Competencies

    Extensive complex contract negotiation and drafting experience and dispute resolution skills.
    Excellent drafting experience - Ability to interpret legislation and make recommendations taking into account business requirements
    Must have strong experience in stakeholder management at a senior level
    Strong written, verbal and negotiating skills as well as interface effectively with all levels of management and present a fitting corporate image to the press and public
    Must have solid people management experience

    Proven ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple complex tasks in a fast-paced environment continuously.
    Ability to work in a team environment and with peers and management on all levels of the organization and collaborate
    Critical strategic thinking skills, ability to rapidly assess issues and associated risk and ability to make critical decisions in a fast-paced environment are essential.
