  • Job Title: Lodge Relief Manager
    Location: Kwa-Zulu Natal
    Salary: R10 000 – R14 000 p/m (negotiable)
    Starting date: ASAP
    The successful candidate will report to the Operational Manager and should be willing to work for extended periods in a remote environment; they should be enthusiastic, passionate and full of energy.
    • Transport - movement between lodges will be paid but initial transport to/from off days to place of work not
    • After Probation period of 3 months - Cost to Company Medical Contribution R500 per month, Provident Fund Contribution
    • Work Schedule – 6 weeks on, 2 weeks off
    • Laundry, meals on duty, housekeeping, Accommodation Single
    Key Outputs:
    • Hospitality Diploma or tertiary qualification in Hotel Management
    • Computer Literate – property management systems/EXCEL/ Microsoft Office
    • English speaking, fluent in written & spoken English
    • Zulu (Speak) advantage
    • Driver’s License valid PDP essential
    • South African Citizen
    • Physically fit, sober habits and in good health
    • Neat & Presentable with a friendly personality
    • Well-groomed & good personal hygiene
    • Strong work ethic, ability to work unsupervised, work flexible hours & extended hours
    • Passionate about conservation in all aspects of wilderness areas
    • Good interpersonal skills
    • Management experience in luxury lodge environment
    • Experience and ability to train staff
    • Enthusiasm, passion and energy
    • Unique Factors (e.g. frequent travel, shifts, etc.)
    Report to:
    • Group Operations Manager
    Responsible for Whom:
    • Relief at 3 lodges in the group
    • Previous work experience of at least 8/15 years in a management position within a Lodge operation
    • Reservation & front office administration
    • General understanding of HR functions
    • Systematic & strong with protocols
    • Use to a reporting system & presenting month end packs to Operations
    • An understanding of budget control & financial management
    • Maintenance skills & experience an advantage
    • Eye for detail & good all-rounder in all aspects of the lodge – food/ beverage/ housekeeping/ front office
    • Hands on attitude as our relief Manager is operationally on the ground
    • Maintain SOP’s throughout the lodge with the HOD’s
    • HR functions & implementations
    • Experience in managing a team effectively
    • Able to anticipate the team’s needs
    • Sense of ownership & pride in work
    • Sensitive to & understanding, tolerant of cultural differences
    • Methodical work ethic with a high regard for attention to detail
    • Excellent decision maker
    • Empathetic & compassionate personality
    • Self-motivated
    • Flexible attitude & willing to take on tasks as necessary
    • Realistic expectations of bush life
    • Well-groomed & a good sense of personal hygiene
    • Weekly & monthly report basis to Operations Manager & Head Office when in lodge over month end
    • Ensuring the SOP are exceeded & maintained above set standards for the lodge
    • Health & safety
    • Ensure our brand standards are always maintained in all areas that make up the guest experience
    • Ensure that our culture of rewarding & recognizing of staff is followed through all levels of the lodge
    • Running all operational aspects of the lodge in conjunction with HO
    • Training & mentoring
    • Ensure that training & development of staff is coordinated
    • Ensure that controls & systems are in place to ensure the sustainability of the business as well as conserving our resources
    • Represent the brand in appearance & behaviour
    • Hands-on-approach
    • Strong team player & leader – good fit into the company culture as a whole
    • Honest person with high sense of integrity
    • Excellent organizational & administrative skills
    You need to be/to have:
    • Financial Management ,Stock takes & overseeing month end operational stock
    • Meet every guest & host to ensure they know who is looking after them
    • Building & Project overseeing
    • Basic Vehicle Maintenance knowledge
    • Experienced in managing such a large & diverse & intense property
    • Excellent skills in staff training, staff motivation, staff upliftment & mentorship
    • Has a passion for his/her craft
    • Required to oversee the daily operations of the hotel, attend GM meetings
    • Thinks on their feet & self-motivated
    • Service orientated
    • Problem solving skills
    • Good communication verbal & written skills with guests & inter departmental relations
    • Good hospitality skills
    • Management & training of a passionate team
    • Ensuring all organizational requirements around delivering a great guest experience at each lodge is planned for & executed on a daily basis
