  • Background

    Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited ("WHC") is a wholly owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences. WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives. In addition WHC offers a range of products and services to the Academics conducting these activities in order to assist with the management thereof.

    Main purpose of the job

    To manage and coordinate the activities across CLS studies, according to good clinical laboratory practice (GCLP), ISO 15189:2017 standards and sponsor requirements.

    Braamfontein, Johannesburg
    Key performance areas

    Map processes and ensure that they are coordinated to meet desired goals.
    Extract information from scientific protocols to write laboratory analytical plans and lab manuals.
    Ensure tasks are coordinated and completed within specified timelines.
    Initiate meetings to discuss activities, provide updates and resolve issues
    Evaluate IQC and EQA data to off-site labs and provide troubleshooting support.
    Timely follow up of corrective actions.
    Renegotiate commitments and deadlines as circumstances dictate.
    Conduct laboratory audits, gather, evaluate and analyse relevant laboratory information and documentatioj in a logical and coherent manner. Ensure that ourcomes are evaluated and that problems are resolved. (As needed).
    Coordination of logistics as per IATA specifications
    Required minimum education and training

    National Diploma in Biomedical Technology (Clinical Pathology preferred) / BSc (Life Sciences)/ Medical Technician.
    Required minimum work experience

    3 Years as a Technician/ Technologist in a medical laboratory.
    Professional Body Registration

    Registration with the Health Professions Council of South African as a Medical Technician or Medical Technologist (Clinical Pathology preferred).
    Additional education, work experience and personal abilities

    High attention to detail is essential.
    Experience in specimen and database management.
    Certificate in Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP).
    Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
    Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders.
    Good negotiation skills.
    Willing to work extra hours, as needed to meet sponsor deadlines.
    Occational travel to African countries (as needed)
    Clinical trials, Parasitology and PCR experience adventageous
